MoDOT Delays Closure of Missouri Highway 79 Until August 15

Weather permitting, Monday, August 15, the Missouri Department of Transportation will close Missouri Route 79 at Guinn’s Creek, located 0.60 mile south of Route H near Annada, to replace the bridge.  The closure date has been pushed back two weeks due to complications with getting materials.

“It will take our contractor about two months to complete the Guinn’s Creek Bridge project,” said MoDOT Area Engineer Brian Haeffner.

‘Rock Against Violence’ Concert at State Room Saturday Night

Dennis Hibbard has seen first hand the violence escalation in Quincy the last two years as he was very close to the Ray Humphrey, Jr. family.  At 14 years of age, Ray was murdered a year ago in March when he was shot sitting outside a friend's home. Then other violent incidents occurred causing Dennis to ask "what can I do to make a difference?" It was then that the idea was spawned to put on a "Rock Against Violence" Concert in Quincy.

If you were around Quincy 23 years ago today, you probably know where you were when you heard the news that the levee in West Quincy failed to hold back the mighty Mississippi River. We all knew when it happened because the news and the river spread like wildfire. What we didn't know at the time was that the levy failed thanks to the assistance of Quincy native James Scott, who was eventually convicted of "creating a catastrophe" by removing sand bags in the area of the levee break. Would the levee have held back the rising water on its own?  Only God knows.
