What is Roller Derby? The Dark River Derby Coalition Will Host a Home Bout on July 13

You've probably heard about the Dark River Derby Coalition, Quincy's all-women's roller derby team. The group was created in 2010 and played their first bout in 2011. The next DRDC home event will be on July 13 at Scotties Fun Spot. Even though you may have heard of the Dark River Derby Coalition, you might not be sure exactly what roller derby is. Should the Illinois Veterans Home be the Permanent Location for 4th of July Fireworks in Quincy? [Poll]

Because of high waters on the river, this year's 4th of July fireworks display in Quincy has been moved to the Illinois Veterans Home. This is not the first time that such a move has taken place. When the announcement was made, one of our Facebook friends, Chantel, commented, " I wish they would keep it at the Veterans Home." Motorcycle Fatalities Are On the Rise

A recent report from the Illinois Department of Transportation shows that fatal motorcycle accidents are up 13 percent from 2010 thru last year.  The report shows that there were 148 motorcycle fatalities in the State of Illinois in 2012 compared to 131 in 2010.  The surprising element in these statistics is that fatalities rose despite less accidents involving motorcycles.
