Carly Rae Jepsen, who had the song of the summer of 2012 with ‘Call Me Maybe,’ is headed to Broadway. She will play Cinderella.

The Canadian singer will make her Broadway debut in ‘Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella.’ She is taking over for Laura Osnes, who wore Cindy’s signature glass slippers for a year.

Jepsen’s run is slated for 12 weeks and begins on Feb. 4.

Fran Drescher, famous for her role on the small screen as the titular character in ‘The Nanny,’ has been cast as the wicked stepmother. She makes her debut the same day as CRJ, who is 28.

While this is Jepsen’s first time on the Great White Way, she did appear in high school productions of ‘Annie,’ “Grease’ and ‘The Wiz’ while growing up in British Columbia. She also attended a performing arts college, so she does have some practice, albeit in an amateur way. We have faith she’ll effortlessly make the leap to the main stage.

Jepsen is thrilled to be sliding into Cinderella’s slippers for a simple reason. The story is enduring and inspiring, and furthers the notion of hope. She said, “I’ve always been one to believe in the impossible, so I relate to her character completely.”

In addition to making her Broadway debut, Jepsen is working on the follow up to ‘Kiss,’ which housed ‘Call Me Maybe.’ The new album is due out next year.

PopCrushers, what do you think of this casting coup? Will the uber adorbs Carly Rae Jepsen make a believable Cinderella?
