Hannibal Continues to Clean Up Following Storm, Flooding [Photo Gallery]
The City of Hannibal continues to clean up streets and properties, more than two weeks after a devastating storm downed trees, damaged buildings and knocked out power to thousands of residents. Flooding in the city has further complicated recovery efforts, as high waters led to the closing of the Flood Buyout Area on South Side, where many storm victims had brought limbs for disposal. A portion of that area has re-opened, though some of it remains underwater.
Douglas Community Services Assessing Needs of Storm Victims
Douglas Community Services in Hannibal is holding assessment of what help is needed by residents following the recent storms. The assessment will be Friday, June 7, from 1 - 3 p.m. in the community room at Douglas Community Services.

Saturday evening, the public is invited to attend the 5th annual Memorial Lantern Float. This event is a ceremonial release of lanterns into the Mississippi from Nipper Park as symbols of the universal hope for peace, open to all regardless of religion or background.
Twain on Main Will Go on in Downtown Hannibal
The Twain on Main Festival will proceed as planned in Hannibal during Memorial Day Weekend.
“This year’s festival is gearing up to be even bigger and better than last year,” said Gail Bryant, Director of the Hannibal Convention & Visitors Bureau. With the levee gates out there is plenty of public parking downtown and several special activities planned throughout the festival. The stores and shops downtown as well as the festival vendors are looking forward to a very busy weekend.”
