6 Times Mountain Lions Were Spotted in Northeast Missouri

It doesn't happen very often, but it can and does occur. There are 6 times that a mountain lion was spotted in northeast Missouri where the report was confirmed by authorities.

If you look at the Missouri Department of Conservation's map of mountain lion sightings, you'll notice a handful that happened in the northeastern part of the state.

Here are the mountain lion sightings in our part of Missouri:

December 31, 2000 - Lewis County, Missouri - A video was recorded by a deer hunter in a tree stand and was confirmed by MLRT.

January 3, 2017 - Ralls County, Missouri - Video of a mountain lion taked by a game camera. MLRT confirmed using photos and other sign.

January 7, 2017 - Pike County, Missouri - Photo of a mountain lion taken by a game camera. MLRT confirmed using photos and other sign.

December 28, 2022 - Shelby County, Missouri - Photo of a mountain lion taken by a game camera. LCRT confirmed using photos and other sign.

April 20, 2011 - Macon County, Missouri - Citizen submitted photos of tracks in a muddy creekbed. MLRT confirmed the tracks were those of a mountain lion.

January 22, 2011 - Macon County, Missouri - Subadult male mountain lion shot by coyote hunters. No indication of a captive animal. Genetic analysis revealed the propbable population of origin was Central Montana.

It's not a frequent occurrence, but mountain lion sightings in Missouri are on the rise and they do sometimes involve big cats that are now spotted in the northeastern part of the state. Good to keep in mind that is a possibility next time you're in the woods.
