On Monday, the Illinois State Police and the Brown County Sheriff's Department will hold a joint event in Mt. Sterling to highlight the fact that Brown County recorded zero fatalities in 2012.

The event will be held at the EMS Building on the west end of Mt. Sterling. Representatives from both police agencies and the local media will be in attendance. The purpose is to recognize the efforts of numerous local emergency services, education groups, engineering groups and law enforcement agencies which all helped to contribute to Brown County having zero fatal crashes in 2012.

Brown County is one of only six counties in the entire State of Illinois to achieve this distinction. Unfortunately 963 people lost their lives on Illinois roadways during 2012 which is 963 too many.
