One has to wonder what people are thinking when they do the things they do these days. Such is the case for a teenager from Utah who decided to cover her eyes and drive a pickup truck. The 17-year-old girl, whom police did not identify, crashed into another car. The Layton, Utah Police Department, located just north of Salt Lake City, called it a “predictable result” in a police news release.

This was yet another on-line craze called the “Bird Box Challenge” from the movie Bird Box that has become a hit, with more than 45 million Netflix subscribers watching it within the first week of its release last month. The movie involves people covering their eyes from the evil that chases them and now has inspired people to record themselves doing various tasks while blindfolded. Such was the case with the Utah teenager who crashed her pickup truck.

Seriously, what other result did this teen think was going to happen?  What does this reveal about our society as a whole?  Do we actually need to explicitly warn drivers to NOT drive blindfolded or partake in other dangerous social media challenges?  Apparently we do! I’m not sure a warning will be sufficient and that, my friends, is scary!
