I don't know about you, whenever I drive by a correctional facility I get an eerie feeling about the place. I get that feeling just being outside the facility. I can't imagine what it would feel like to be in one. Well, on Saturday, October 27, I can find out and so can you as the Iowa Department of Corrections will be hosting tours of the historic and now vacant Iowa State Penitentiary in Fort Madison. So if you ever wanted to see the inside of the Penitentiary here is your chance.

Tickets, at $15 for those over the age of 12, are limited for each tour's time slots. Those under 12 are asked to bring a non-perishable food item for the local food pantry.  The tours will begin at 9 a.m. through 12 noon or from 1 p.m. through 4 p.m. To order tickets online go to www.iowastatepen.com.

The D.O.C.is offering these tours to raise money for a Historic Structure Report which will evaluate the site's condition and prove a recommendation for it's future use according to Cedar Rapid's KCRG-TV's web site.
