The United States is the world’s most benevolent country of 2014, a title it shares with Myanmar, according to WalletHub. Just how generous are Americans? According to the National Philanthropic Trust, 95.4 percent of households donate to charities, with each contributing an annual average of $2,974.

In 2013 alone, Americans gave more than $335 billion, 72 percent of which came directly from individuals. WalletHub has revealed the most generous of the 50 states utilizing a total of eight key metrics.

Leading the way was Utah followed by South Dakota, Idaho, Kansas and Nebraska. The bottom five are Arizona, West Virginia, Kentucky and New Jersey with Nevada coming in last at number 50.

Iowa was number 11, Missouri 21 and Illinois 28 on the list.
