There’s Musical History Associated With December 4

Today is somewhat of a historical day in the music business with several events having taken place over the years on December 4. For instance, back in 1927 Duke Ellington and his Orchestra made their first appearance at the Cotton Club in Harlem in New York.On this date in 1956, Elvis Presley, Carl Perkins, Johnny Cash, and Jerry Lee Lewis recorded a "jam" session together at Sun Records in Memphis, Tennessee which was eventually released 25 years later (1981) under the title of The Million Dollar Quartet.

In 1965, the Rolling Stones almost lost Keith Richards on this date in 1965 when he was knocked unconscious after his guitar touched an ungrounded microphone during a concert in Sacramento, California. He recovered and finished the show.

On this date in 1980 the remaining band members of Led Zeppelin announced the end of the group after their drummer (John Bonham) passed away. The group felt they could no longer go on without him. Led Zeppelin is still going strong now with Bonham's son, Jason, as their drummer.

And finally on this date in 1988, Roy Orbison played his final concert in Cleveland, Ohio, two days before his untimely death.
