Fighting to find a niche in today’s marketplace, with changing consumer buying habits forced by a worldwide pandemic—let’s just say it’s not an easy time for a budding business or entrepreneur to bust through the clutter and build success. Forbes has compiled a list of eight books that will help you cope with overcrowded markets and economic uncertainty. Number one on the list was written by my first cousin, Mark Quinn. I’m biased, naturally. It’s just cool to see Mark’s name in Forbes and on a book, but based on the reviews, you’ll be impressed too.

Mark and his business partner Mark Kinsley co-wrote the recently released book, Come Back to Bed: Attract More Foot Traffic and Make People Fall in Love with Your Store.

Here’s what Forbes had to say in its article, “Eight Books to Put on Your Reading List This Year.”

“The entire world of retail is in flux: the old rules simply don’t apply anymore. Come Back to Bed shows that, no matter what happens in retail, customer connections should always be at the core of your strategy. By teaching new ways to put your customers first, this book can show you just how to adapt to today’s tumultuous market without losing sight of what’s important.”

I asked Mark what it was like to see this kind of success in his debut book. “To know that we have inspired people and that our principles are making an impact feeds my soul in a way I didn't expect. It's a really cool feeling,” he said. “I encourage anyone to write a book but only if they are doing it for the right reasons. Do it to share wisdom or an opinion but don't do it to sell books. That part will come if you write something that is relevant to your audience.”

Mark Quinn is the Co-founder of Spink & Co, Farm-Grown Beds, and the VP of Key Accounts and Marketing for Sherwood Bedding. He's a top industry blogger at Q's Views and holds pioneering patents in biometric sleep-space technology. The book, though, isn’t all about mattresses. “This book really is for anyone that runs an independent business,” Mark said. “If they want to succeed, they are going to have to stand out from their competition and connect with their customers in a meaningful way.”

Mark and his business partner Mark also host their cleverly named podcast, “Dos Marcos.” The two Marks are available on the speech circuit too.

Though Mark didn’t grow up around here, he has Swinkey roots. His dad, my Uncle Nick, is a proud Swinkian like me. (Surely everyone knows by now that Swinkey, a.k.a. Indian Creek, is a thriving hamlet outside Monroe City.) Cheers to you Mark! Wishing you continued success.
