As we all take advantage of this three-day weekend, we remember those who gave their all so we can be free. Observed on the last Monday in May, Memorial Day is a day to remember those who gave the ultimate sacrifice to make this country a free country.

According to timeanddate.com, Memorial Day was developed to pay tribute to Union Soldiers who were killed in the American Civil War, but was not established as a federal holiday until the 70's.

If you happen to be out and about this very crazy and busy weekend, remember why we have Memorial Day. And even though veterans have their own day, still shake then hand of a veteran and tell them thank you. I have worked in the restaurant business and have seen the impact of a stranger buying the meal of a veteran and solider. Remember it's the little things in life that can go a long way.
