The O.J. Simpson Verdict Took Place on This Date in 1995

On this date, October 3^rd, 1995, just about everyone in this area was watching WGEM or KHQA at the same time. Today marks the 22nd anniversary of the O.J. Simpson “Not Guilty” verdict.  It was one of those moments where you knew where you were when the verdict was read.For those who were too young to remember this trial here’s what took place.  The O. J. Simpson murder case was a criminal trial held in Los Angeles County California Superior Court that went on from jury selection on November 2, 1994 to opening statements on January 24, 1995 to a verdict on October 3, 1995.

Former football star and actor O.J. Simpson was tried on two counts of murder following the June 1994 deaths of his ex-wife Nicole Brown and her friend Ronald Goldman. The case has been described as the most publicized criminal trial in American history. Ultimately, Simpson was acquitted after a lengthy trial that lasted over nine months which was presided over by Judge Lance Ito.

Simpson's celebrity status and the lengthy televised trial riveted national attention on the so-called "Trial of the Century". The verdict drew a record TV audience share of 91% of all TV’s in use at that time with 107.7 million people (57% of the population at that time) watching.

Then in September of 2007, Simpson was arrested in Las Vegas and charged with numerous felonies, including armed robbery and kidnapping. In 2008, he was found guilty and sentenced to thirty-three years' imprisonment, with a minimum of nine years without parole. He was just released on Sunday after serving his sentence at the Lovelock Correctional Center in Lovelock, Nevada.

Many people still feel Simpson was guilty of murder.  Do you?
