For those dealing with Alzheimer ’s disease in their family a new concept called the Memory Café is being established in Quincy. The Memory Café is a new “spin” on support groups whereby people suffering from Alzheimer’s and their caregiver are welcomed in a social setting.

This gathering leads to the development of friendships, acceptance and interaction with others in a similar situation. The Alzheimer’s Association describes it as an “engaging environment where people can interact, laugh, cry, find support, share concerns and celebrate without feelings of embarrassment or judgement”.  Please note that this is not a respite activity as all caregivers are required to attend as well as their care recipient.

The very first Memory Café will be held this Wednesday, December 11th at 2 p.m. The local Memory Café will be held every 2nd Wednesday of each month at 2 p.m. at the Quincy Senior Center at 639 York Street in Quincy.
