As the song says "They say lights are brighter on Broadway."  Well, several lights have gone from bright, to dimmer, to off, as six businesses on Broadway have closed their doors between 30th and 38th streets. In the last two years, that eight-block area of Quincy has lost Deb Shops, J.C. Penney, Radio Shack, Long John Silver's, TGI Fridays, and now Steak 'n Shake. You can probably add County Market, Blockbuster and Wild Birds Unlimited, as well, although those stores were closed some time ago. That's two clothing stores, three food places, an equipment store, a video store, a nature store and a grocery store which actually relocated.

There appears to be some possibility of occupancy for the Blockbuster and Wild Birds Unlimited buildings, but the rest most likely will remain empty for a while. Hopefully, the rest will reopen in some capacity.

Empty store fronts in a Mall ,or on your main road through the City of Quincy, are not a good thing. It's time to turn the lights back on Broadway.
