Wednesday is the Fourth of July, and a lot of us will have the day off to celebrate our nation's independence. There will be no mail and no banking, but there will be lots of fireworks, parades and cookouts.

As much fun as the Fourth of July always is, this year there is one thing that kind of stinks: The holiday falls right in the middle of the week. Most will be going to work for two days, taking one day off, and then going back to work for the remaining two days of the week.

Sometimes in situations like this there will be an official "observed on" date declared, on a Friday or a Monday, so that everyone gets a three-day weekend. Granted, it would be pretty strange to observe Independence Day, which everyone knows is the FOURTH of July, on July 2, or June 29, but there are almost certainly those who would have preferred we did exactly that, this year.

What do you think?
