The Dreaded Colonoscopy

Dr. Oliver and Dr. Dorsey were talking this morning on Y101 about a report that came out stating that a laxative-free colonoscopy is just as effective as current methods being used. That led us both to think about our most recent colonoscopies and what we went through to prepare for that wonderful event. For those who haven't gone through it, it is a painless venture. They knock you out and you wake up waiting for the procedure to start after it already happened. No discomfort except for the prep work needed to perform the procedure the day before. So to hear this news caught my attention. Nobody likes to be "invaded" like that but it is necessary. For me the Doctor came in and asked me if I "was ready for this?". My response was..."Doc, who is ever ready for this?". He chuckled and we proceeded. He asked me if there was any questions I may have before we got started. I replied "Doc, do you need to have that hose on the counter in plain view with measurements on it?" The hose has 17, 18, 19 feet marked on it. Again, he chuckled. It's one thing to have fun at your job, but he seemed to be chuckling way to much for me especially for what was about to happen. Seriously, it is a painless procedure and if they do get rid of the need to use a laxative the day before it's even less of an inconvenience. Just don't have Dr. Oliver or Dr. Dorsey perform the colonoscopy. We reuse our gloves!
