It was 69 years ago when 'Candid Camera with Alan Funt, as the show's host, made its network debut. It first aired in 1948 on ABC television and was originally called Candid Microphone, which was also the name of Alan Funt's radio program.

It was July 20th, 1969 and the world was riveted to their TV sets watching what was once the unthinkable, a man walking on the moon. I was 15 years old in New York and was glued to the family TV set like everyone around here was to KHQA or WGEM.

Local golf fans will get the chance to watch Quincy native and PGA member Luke Guthrie play in Quincy on May 29.

An icon in local radio, Chuck Yates, would have been 68 years old today. It sounds strange to say that since he was always considered a “teenager” by all who knew him.  Chuck passed away on December 19, 2013. The hard work and dedication of individuals and organizations to the arts community was honored in Arts Quincy’s annual George M. Irwin Arts Awards which was presented today (Friday) at the Quincy Exchange Club meeting. The group recognized outstanding work by an arts organization, individual teaching artist, volunteer, and business leadership.

This Saturday night, fireworks displays will be seen by millions around this great country of ours including the Hannibal-Quincy area. In Hannibal it will be held on the riverfront and in Quincy the display will take place at the Illinois Veteran’s Home grounds.

WGEM has announced a partnership in the presentation of the 2015 Fourth of July Fireworks in both Hannibal and Quincy. WGEM has been involved in putting on the fireworks in Quincy for over 20 years, yet this will be the first time it will participate in Hannibal’s fireworks show as well.

The Adams County Courthouse was the scene this morning for the first court appearance of Stefan Crider, Jr. and Julia Crider, the father and step-mother of the man accused of murdering 12-year-old Rayshone Humphrey Jr., and it was not without an incident.

Wow, what a weekend for news in Quincy. A murder case arrest was made, a multiple apartment complex 3-alarm fire, a man's body finally found in the Mississippi River and now comes word of a large group of some 30 people fighting and a stabbing of a 20-year-old man at 8th and York in Quincy.
