Former Quincy Notre Dame and current Nebraska senior place-kicker Pat Smith has been named the Big Ten Conference special teams player of the week, the conference announced today. Smith was honored after kicking the game-tying and game-winning field goals in Nebraska’s 23-20 overtime win at Penn State last Saturday.

I was watching the announcement by the NCAA's Mark Emmert about the sanctions imposed by the NCAA against Penn State University as fallout from the Jerry Sandusky sex abuse scandal. First the removal of the Joe Paterno statue and then the NCAA sanctions.
