Since balloons have been in the news lately for obvious reasons, did you know that balloon bombs really did fall on Iowa during World War II? It's true and these contraptions were more dangerous than you'd think.

One day, many years ago, this country suffered a surprise attack from a foreign force. About 3,000 lives were lost, and America was never the same.

This historic anniversary happened on Sunday which explains why there was little or no mention of it. It was August 6, 1945 and the United States was involved with World War Two on two fronts, in Europe and also in the South Pacific.  Supplies were waning with fighting going on in two different parts of the world at the same time.
