Thanksgiving is a time for family, friends, food, and football. And for some of us, it's also that magical time of year when you can line up in the freezing cold and knock people out of the way in hopes of getting your hands on whatever the hot item toy happens to be that year so that the Big Guy from the North Pole can just take all the credit.

It seems every year, Black Friday is creeping further and further into Thanksgiving. Even online shopping is cutting into the holiday. And whether you prefer buying online or waiting in line, the holiday shopping season is getting closer. And according to Best Black Friday, these Tri-States stores are saying NO to being open on the Thanksgiving:

  • Hobby Lobby - (open for Black Friday at 8 a.m.)
  • JOANN Fabric and Craft Stores
  • Lowe’s – (open for Black Friday at 6 a.m.)
  • Menards
  • Petco (hey your four-legged friends need love too, open for Black Friday at 8 a.m.)
  • Sam's Club
  • Staples – (open for Black Friday at 7 a.m.)
  • T.J.Maxx – (open for Black Friday at 7 a.m.)

This list will probably grow as we get closer to the Thanksgiving holiday. I have worked in retail on Thanksgiving and on Black Friday and IT'S A NIGHTMARE. So good on these stores for thinking of their employees and giving them an actual day off to spend with family and friends.

And in full disclosure, my sisters and I actually DO do our shopping as early as possible over the holiday (yes, even on Thanksgiving). But remember, if you can't get your hands on that precious toy your kids covet, maybe it just wasn't meant to be. They will survive.
