Stabbing on I 72 Near Hannibal Leaves Man Dead
A fight between two men in a pickup turns deadly in Pike County, Illinois.
Pike County Sheriff Paul Petty has retweeted a WGEM story that says authorities were called just before 1 a.m. Saturday to Mile Marker 1 on I-72 just east of Hannibal.
Officers arrived to find two men in a Chevy Colorado pickup off the roadway. One of the occupants, 47 year-old Dennis Coffman of Petersburg, Illinois, was found seriously injured. He was rushed to Hannibal Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Authorities believe Dennis Coffman and 28 year-old Joseph Coffman of Arizona were traveling to Illinois when they got into an altercation that resulted in a stabbing.
Joseph Coffman was arrested and charged with Aggravated Battery. He was taken to the Pike County, Illinois Jail pending a court appearance. Charges against him are expected to be upgraded as the investigation progresses.
