Quincy Public Library will celebrate the grand opening of its branch location,
Tuesday, January 17 at 5 p.m. at the Q.P.L. kiosk branch located in the café inside County Market, 48th and Broadway, with a ribbon cutting.  The public is invited to attend.

Q.P.L. has installed a 24-hour self-serve vending kiosk, offering popular titles of books, DVDs, and CDs for adults and children. In addition to the kiosk, there are hold lockers where reserved materials may be picked up, and a drop box for returns. A computer is also available to peruse the entire library catalog. All library services at the kiosk location are provided at no charge to community members holding valid Quincy Public Library cards.

“The kiosk makes it easy for library patrons to access material in a location convenient to them,” explained library Director Nancy Dolan. “Q.P.L. staff and board members reviewed options to provide expanded services to community members in a cost-effective fashion. We’re so pleased to partner with County Market to provide the kiosk branch on the east end of town.”

Material in the kiosk is available on a what-you-see-is-what –you-get basis. Patrons simply scan their Q.P.L. card, then make a selection from the visible items.  Patrons may also call the library to request specific material to be delivered to the hold lockers, where the material will be available for pick up at the patron’s convenience. The patron’s Q.P.L. card number will open the locker to retrieve the requested items.

Patrons may also view eBook options at the computer station at the kiosk.  The selected eBooks can then be easily downloaded to the device of choice.

The Townships of the Quincy Area Library District provided funding for the kiosk.  Board president Malinda Vogel said “Our goal was to expand access to library materials to residents who live a little further away from the Quincy Public Library building.  We’re excited to help provide this option to serve the community.”
