While many of us remain glued to our TVs looking for ways to help the hurricane relief efforts, one Quincy man's recent humanitarian trek to Texas has truly captivated the community.

On Tuesday, Shane McDermott, a Texas native who has called Quincy home for many years, loaded his truck and a trailer with cases upon cases of Glacier Clear bottled water and other supplies and headed south to help the victims of Hurricane Harvey.

Keeping friends and family updated on his route with a series of Facebook posts, McDermott made it to Texas the following day where he and a crew of volunteers unloaded and assured the resources get to those who need them the most.

After visiting with family and friends in the Lone Star state, McDermott made it safely back to Quincy on Friday morning.

For those of you that can't make it to Texas, there are still plenty of ways you can assist. Arguably the simplest option is to text HARVEY to 90999 to make a $10 donation to the Red Cross. You can also log onto the Salvation Army's website to find out what items are needed in Texas.
