The Quincy City Council Monday night approved the creation of a business development district at the Quincy Town Center and a sales tax associated with the district.

By a 10-3 vote, the council waived a third reading of the proposed ordinances.

The purpose of the district and the sales tax is to improve existing business and recruit new businesses to the Town Center.

Along with the additional sales tax, a one percent hotel-motel tax would be imposed on any future developments within the district.

Today these parks are located throughout the country in 25 states and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The land encompassing them was either purchased or donated, though much of it had been inhabited by native people for thousands of years before the founding of the United States.
