Quincy University announced that it will be creating a Men’s and Women’s bowling program that begins in the 2020-21 school year.

With this addition the relatively small university will now have 23 athletic programs. For comparison, QU has an average enrollment of a little over 1,000. Illinois State University, according to their website, has 29 sports programs for over 20,000 annually enrolled students.

It’s important to note that while ISU does have 29 sports programs, it does not mean they only have 29 sports teams. Undoubtedly, QU has fewer teams per sports program than ISU. The compelling stat here is the scope of interests and athletic ability of the small QU student body.  Ranging from Baseball to Lacrosse to Track and Field and now the newly announced Bowling team, QU students fill these programs and make competitive teams. Like the QU Baseball team, who won the Midwest Region Championship in 2017.

QU may be small, but that doesn’t mean much when you have the right students to make up teams. QU is currently looking for a coach for the bowling program to begin in the 2020-2021 school year.
