In conjunction with Fire Prevention Week, the Quincy Fire Department will be holding their Annual Fire Prevention Week Kickoff event on Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. at the Quincy Mall. Their theme this year is "Working Smoke Alarms Save Lives: Test Yours Every Month." The event will be held on the South parking lot in front of Bergners with the Fountain Court area utilized in case of bad weather.

This year's event is sponsored by Dairy Queen and Refreshment Services Pepsi. Each child that participates will receive a free Dairy Queen Kids Meal. The Kids will get to meet Sparky the Fire Dog and get to see the Fire Safety House and participate in the firefighter obstacle course. They will also get to spray water through a fire hose as well. An Aircraft Rescue Firefighting Truck will also be on display.

At 3pm there will be a sprinkler cube demonstration followed by the "Push the Button with Ella" Walk with fire survivor Baby Ella leading the walk. Walkers are being asked to wear red with no cost to participate.The walk is intended to remind people to push the button on their smoke detectors to check to see if they are in good working order.
