Q.U.’s Birdsong and Three Other Former Gems Selected in MLB Draft

Quincy University senior and former Quincy Gems second baseman Cody Birdsong was selected by the Atlanta Braves in the 32^nd round of the 2019 Major League Baseball Draft on Wednesday.
Birdsong was a mainstay in the Hawks lineup during his two years at Q.U., starting in all 111 games. He recorded a career batting average of .319, including 27 home runs and 92 RBIs.

Birdsong accumulated three All-American honors, five All-Region honors, was a two-time All-GLVC first team selection, and helped the Hawks clinch a GLVC Tournament Championship in 2018.

Three other former Quincy Gems pitchers were selected in the draft as well.  Davis Schwab was also selected by the Atlanta Braves in the 37^th round, Riley Boyd was selected by the Kansas City Royals in the 28^th round and Andrew Peters was chosen in the 21st round by the Tampa Bay Rays.

These selections are a testimony to the talent of the Quincy University Hawks and the Quincy Gems.
