During the holiday season, we're all a little more mindful of helping out those that are in need. We do so by dropping our extra change - or even a few bills - into the Salvation Army's red kettles, donating to toy drives like Load the Lobby and Toys for Tots, or volunteering time to serve Christmas dinners to our neighbors who would otherwise be alone at Christmastime.

Of course, the service organizations in our area help people all year around. The Salvation Army, United Way, Madonna House, the YMCA, Special Olympics, Quincy Catholic Charities, the Alzheimer's Association... the list goes on an on. We are fortunate to have so many local nonprofit organizations, religious, and civil groups that are always serving, always working to make our communities better places to live.

We wish the happiest of holidays to all volunteers, staff members and coordinators of these groups, and offer our thanks for doing such great work, 12 months a year.

If you are a member of a local organization, or church group, please leave a comment below on what your organization is, what it does, and how our audience can help your mission - whether it be through specific donations, or volunteer opportunities.

If you are not a member of an organization, but would like to leave a holiday message for your favorite local nonprofit groups, your comments are also welcome.
