The big bicentennial mural planned for the side of Hannibal City Hall is a go!  With just a couple days to spare, a fundraising campaign topped its $15,000 goal to paint this one-of-a-kind mural that reflects Hannibal's history.

Artist Ray Harvey will start the project in October. The plans call for featuring Mark Twain plus two of his characters, Huckleberry Finn and the runaway slave Jim. There is also a spot for the Unsinkable Molly Brown who grew up in Hannibal and a steamboat on the Mississippi, which helped put Hannibal on the map.

Harvey specializes in murals and already has completed some fantastic work around Hannibal. The mural at Fourth and Broadway will stand 40 feet tall by 70 feet wide.

The mural is fully funded by donations, including a $1,000 donation from Steve Shaw, owner of Saints Avenue Steakhouse and Buffet which helped put the campaign over the top.
