Humans haven't stepped foot o the moon in a long time, but all of that could be changing very soon with NASA's announcement of their new "Artemis Plan" to get both male and female astronauts to the moon by 2024 using the new SLS NASA rockets.

NASA announced on their website their Artemis Plan, in this new plan to get back to the moon in 4 years they say...

"With bipartisan support from Congress, our 21st century push to the Moon is well within America’s reach,” said NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine. “As we’ve solidified more of our exploration plans in recent months, we’ve continued to refine our budget and architecture. We’re going back to the Moon for scientific discovery, economic benefits, and inspiration for a new a generation of explorers. As we build up a sustainable presence, we’re also building momentum toward those first human steps on the Red Planet.”

The plan is laid out in 3 phases with humans landing back on the moon in phase 3 of this Artemis Plan. I worked at the Adler Planetarium in Chicago for years and the scientists would always tell me about how important the moon is for space exploration. If humans can build an effective NASA moon base we can launch way more rockets, exploratory satellites, and crafts all throughout the solar system without having to fight through Earths atmosphere or gravity. Also the moon is filled with valuable resources and rare metals, so harvesting the moon is key to future human technological advances. I know everyone wants to go to Mars but the moon is way more important to us a explorers.
