Whether you’re behind on your summer utility bill or you foresee needing help with your winter heating costs, money is available for Missourians who qualify. Because of the economic struggles brought on by COVID, more people than usual will qualify for help with their past-due bills.

Ameren just announced an expansion of its Clean Slate program. An increase in the income limits means more Missourians will be able to pay off their overdue electricity bills.  For instance, a family of four making up to $65,500 a year could qualify. The single-person household income limit is $31,900.

There are restrictions. Customers will have to pay 25-percent of their overdue balance before they can receive help. They also have to prove that COVID has had an economic impact on their household.

The North East Community Action Corporation will take applications for the Clean Slate program in northeast Missouri.

In the meantime, NECAC is getting ready to accept the first round of winter utility assistance applications. The program starts November 1st for the elderly and disabled. Applications for the general public starts December 1st.  Help is available to utility customers who meet income guidelines and those who face a cut-off of service.

For more information, call your local county NECAC Service Center or call 573-324-0102.
