Two weeks from this Thursday on September 10 there will be a special election day in the 18th Congressional District which includes this area. On that day voters will be going to the polls to elect a replacement for former Congressman Aaron Schock, who resigned in March.

Schock is under a federal investigation into his campaign spending as Congressman for the 18th District. To fill his vacant seat, Republican Darin LaHood of Dunlap, Illinois is running against Democrat Rob Mellon of Quincy, Illinois.

LaHood is currently an Illinois State Senator from the 37th District.  Mellon is a teacher and former radio broadcaster. Both Mellon and LaHood will be involved in two debates this week.

The first debate will be held in Springfield, Illinois on Wednesday night at 6 p.m. with the second debate being held in Peoria on Thursday. The Springfield debate can be heard on a live stream from at www.sj-r.com and the Peoria debate can be seen locally on WGEM-TV at 7 p.m. Thursday night.
