A hugely popular Halloween event at Mark Twain Lake is cancelled this year because of COVID-19 concerns.

The U.S. Army Corp of Engineers announced on its Facebook page that it has cancelled the annual Indian Creek Halloween Walk scheduled for October 16 and 17.

Nine thousand visitors typically crowd the Indian Creek Campgrounds at Mark Twain Lake for this event. The costumed kids wind through the campsites and collect candy from campers who have decked out their space with often elaborate decorations.

From the Mark Twain Lake Facebook page:

"Staff and public safety are our top priorities and this cancellation is based on capacity to protect the health, safety and security of the public, our partners and USACE employees."
