(Hannibal) – One of Hannibal’s best known eateries is closing its doors. Owner Mike Ginsberg has announced that Lula Belle’s in downtown Hannibal will close its door at the end of business Saturday.

Ginsberg says business has been in a slow decline since traffic patterns changed with the opening of the new Mississippi River bridge in 2000. But, the drop in business has become more pronounced the last two years for a variety of reasons, among them the drought of 2012 and the disruption of traffic because of street work this season.

Ginsberg says that, although the day-to-day operation of Lula Belle’s will end Saturday, the other aspects of the business will go on for now. Overnight accommodations will still be available. Parties that have already been booked will still take place, and anyone wishing to book a get-together for the holidays can still do so.

Mike and Pam Ginsberg have operated Lula Belle’s in downtown Hannibal since 1995.
