What happens when you combine ping pong, tennis, badminton and wiffleball? It's called pickleball and it is all the rage in Hannibal.

A free class for anyone interested in learning about pickleball will be 5:30 p.m. June 23 at the Huckleberry Park outdoor courts. Hannibal area pickleball enthusiasts are offering a class to teach people how to play pickleball.

Jenna McDonald, recreation supervisor at Hannibal Parks & Recreation, said, “It’s a great way for people to learn the basics,” she said. “Pickleball is simple to learn and good for all ages and skill levels.” She said the class is a good way for beginners to learn the sport. “Now more than ever people are looking for ways to get active,” she said.

A summer league for leisure, intermediate and competitive divisions will begin July 2. Registration to join the league is due at 5 p.m. June 25. The class is free but reservations are requested by emailing jmcdonald@hannibal-mo.gov or calling 573-221-0154. Equipment will be provided.
