Joe Jonas is one of Taylor Swift‘s more high profile exes. Their relationship was incredibly short-lived and at this point, is ancient history since they split in 2008. But their breakup generated plenty of media heat since Jonas broke up with Swift over a half-a-minute phone call and she talked about it… often and loudly. It had people wondering if her new kiss-off anthem ‘We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together‘ is about him. Jonas was quick to point out that he and Swift dated forevs ago and that they never tried to reunite, so he is not the culprit.

Jonas, who celebrated a birthday yesterday (Aug. 15), told Washington, D.C. radio station 94.7 Fresh FM (quotes via WENN) that he and Swift never attempted a second go-round of their relationship, thus clearing his name.

“I don’t think we’ve ever tried (to get back together) another time, so I can tell you it’s not about me,” the singer said.

Okay, Joe, you serial dater of super hot and famous women. You’re off the hook. Your name is clear. The song is likely not about you for all the reasons you’ve stated. But wouldn’t it be cool if it was? To inspire that kind of emotion from a super famous, beautiful and talented singer worshipped by millions?

Despite an ugly breakup, Jonas has nothing but love for his ex, even complimenting the anthem. “I think the song is great. Taylor does pop music really well and I’m happy for her,” he said.

Something tells us he might have been singing a different tune if the song was indeed about him.
