One of the fun things to do during a cold month like January is to view the majestic Bald Eagles. This weekend you will get the opportunity at two different locations as the Oakley Lindsay Center in Quincy will be the sight of Great River Eagle Days and the Keokuk Area Convention and Tourism Bureau will be hosting Bald Eagle Appreciation Days at the River City Mall in Keokuk, Iowa.

The Quincy event will be held this Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days. Admission into the event is $5.00 for ages twelve and older.

The event honors Native American traditions with a variety of sacred ceremonies and entertainment features.  New this year on Saturday, is acclaimed Native American hoop dancer, Brian Hammill. Bald eagles will be presented all weekend for close up viewing.

Native American vendors and food booths will be on site both days this year offering authentic "Fry Bread".  Also new this year, will be the expanded area for children's educational and fun activities. The Native American dancers and drum will perform throughout the event. Dancers dressed in native regalia are invited to dance with prizes to be awarded.

The Keokuk event  will feature wildlife displays, a live eagle & raptor presentation and a wood carvers show from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. this Saturday and Sunday. The public will also get to view the bald eagles outdoors on the riverfront at Victory Park and the Southside Boat Club from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with spotting scopes available free of charge.
