Illinois State Police are urging motorists take safety precautions as winter comes. Ice and snow are not a friend when it comes to winter driving. Illinois State Police urge your to allow extra travel time to get to and from destinations. Freezing rain, icy roads and white-out conditions can be very dangerous and can come quickly.

Motorists also need to obey the state's Scott's Law also known as the "move over law." This law mandates that when approaching any emergency vehicle, including highway maintenance vehicles (snow plows) and tow trucks that have rotating or flashing lights stopped along the road way, you MUST stop, then proceed with due caution, change lanes if possible, and reduce your speed. And wear your seat belt.

For more information on road conditions, contact the Illinois Department of Transportation at 1-800-452-IDOT or on the internet at www.gettingaroundillinois.com.
