Over the last few months, Hoverboards have become increasing popular among people of all ages, including young children. Hoverboards are self-balancing, two-wheeled electric-powered, hands-free skateboards. Unfortunately, the publicity about Hoverboards has not been good. There have been recent incidents involving Hoverboards catching fire and causing falls that lead to Emergency Room visits, have been reason for concern with regards to its usage.  A recent house fire in Hannibal was directly related to the charging of a Hoverboard.

Safe Kids Adams County, an organization committed to decreasing unintentional injury to children, would like to remind those who use it to follow these two safety tips:

1.Do not charge a Hoverboard overnight or let it charge unsupervised.

2.Use safety gear for protection from falls for a Hoverboard like a helmet, knee and elbow pads, and wrist guards.

Adults should supervise kids to make sure that they wear appropriate safety gear and that they stay out of the street to avoid collisions with vehicles. Parents should also make sure their children use the Hoverboard in an open space with a smooth surface.
