Here’s Your Chance to Send a Dozen Donuts to Your Friends

Friday, June 1,  is National Donut Day and to honor the day the Quincy Salvation Army is teaming up with Dunkin' Donuts in Quincy to celebrate Donut Day with a fundraiser.  Here's how it works.  For a $25 donation to the Salvation Army Food Pantry, the Salvation Army will deliver a dozen donuts on June 1 to anyone you want within a 30-mile radius of Quincy.

This event is a spin-off idea from the Salvation Army Donut Lassies organization during World War I.  It was the Lassies who served sweet treats to soldiers fighting on the front lines during World War I.

Also, the veterans at the Illinois Veteran's Home will also be getting free donuts at a special ceremony at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, June 1 at Smith Hall. At that event the Salvation Army Brass Band will perform and the history of the Salvation Army Donut Lassies will be reviewed.

National Donut Day was actually started by the Salvation Army in 1938 to bring comfort, care and donuts to American soldiers during World War II and has continued each year thereafter.  To place your order, call 217-231-5694 by Wednesday, May 30. All donuts will be delivered on June 1.
