We recently posted an informal poll on our Facebook page asking which local high school mascot is your favorite. Well the votes have been tallied. Here are the results...

With just over 36 percent of the vote, you selected the Quincy Blue Devil as the top mascot in the region, narrowly beating out the Hannibal Pirates (35 percent). Runners up included the Palmyra Panthers at 32 percent, QND Raiders at 10.5 percent, and Unity Mustangs with five percent of the vote.

Now yes, the photo poll is still up there, and there's absolutely nothing is stopping you from going on and skewing the votes one way or the other. But hey, it's been up since Friday, and we're calling it.

The QHS Blue Devil, I believe, stands out then other mascots in the area. If you've never been to a Blue Devils basketball game, you are truly missing out. The Blue Devil is more then just a costume. It's a theatrically-produced show, like something straight out of the NBA.

It truly is a show to see. My girls love the Blue Devils' mascot (they even said he must have too much sugar). My high school was represented by a tiger and college by a bearcat, so it's hard for me to see the Blue Devils win, but it is pretty cool to see a mascot that is something different than a guy in a sweaty costume.

Congrats to the Blue Devils and all the teams that got votes on our poll. Good luck to all fall sports teams in the upcoming weeks.
