The start of March brings on thoughts of spring and ramping up all the outdoor activities we've missed out on over the winter. The Hannibal Parks and Recreation Department is thinking spring, with the ambition of opening the Huckleberry Park Ramp Park for the season on Saturday, March 9, weather permitting. Looking at the forecast, it seems altogether likely the weather will not permit. Assuming that is the case, the Ramp Park will be open noon to dark for the remaining weekends in March. Starting April 1, the Ramp Park will be open after school on weekdays as well, 3:45 p.m. to dark.

The park is for roller skates, roller blades, skateboards, bicycles and scooters. The cost is $2 on weekdays and $3 on weekends. An annual pass costs $35.

The Ramp Park opened in 2005. It probably comes as no surprise that I'm not skater girl. I have no idea what the following terms mean, but I'm told the facility features below grade concrete bowls with 6 feet drop-ins, banks, spines, rollers, a hubba ledge, grind block, extensions and a hand rail.

Users are required to wear helmets and have a signed waiver and release of liability on file. Anyone under the age of 18 must have a parent or legal guardian sign the waiver.
