(Hannibal) – Although the number of runners was down, officials with Hannibal Regional Hospital consider this year’s Hannibal Cannibal a rousing success.

Numbers released by hospital officials indicate that 1,817 runners took part in the Cannibal last July 7th. That was down a little over a hundred runners from 2011.

The good news is that the event raised over $44-thousand dollars for the hospital’s Heart to Heart campaign. That put the hospital over its $150-thousand dollar goal with about two months left in the fund raising campaign.

The money goes toward setting up a digital cardiac network within the hospital system.

Runners in the Cannibal this year represented 34 states and Germany.
