(Hannibal, Mo)--Approximately 2,000 runners and walkers participated in the Hannibal Cannibal 5K run-walk and the 10K run,  and new this year: the 15 K race.

Roger McKenzie of Quincy ran the 15K.  McKenzie tells KHMO Sports Director Bill Shuler that he takes the Hannibal hills in stride…

"It's awesome, going into the Mark Twain Cave area--nice and flat, shaded, and then back out into the sun--it was great.  We look forward to "the hill", that's why we come down...love the hills; we look forward to it every year, and we get better every year."

The Cannibal gets its name from a grueling hill on the course that can “eat you up”…Tom Redington of Hannibal also ran the 15K and comments on running up Lover’s Leap Lane…

"It's still a big hill; I've run it almost every year... I've done the 10k, 5k lots of times--Lover's Leap is still Lover's Leap."

A Fun Run was held at 9 a.m. for children 10 and under.

Proceeds from the Hannibal Cannibal benefit the Hannibal Regional Hospital’s Healthy Way Campaign, which is raising funds to build a community fitness trail on the medical campus.
