'Gone Girl' is a hit. The new thriller starring Ben Affleck became the No. 1 movie in the U.S. last weekend, beating out 'Annabelle,' the sequel to 'The Conjuring.' I did not see 'Gone Girl' during its opening weekend, but it's a movie I'm interested in watching. On the other hand, it might be a better idea to read the book before seeing the movie.

There's been a lot of local interest in 'Gone Girl.' In the book, there are scenes that take place in Hannibal. It's my understanding that the Hannibal material did not make it into the movie, but quite a bit of the film was shot in Missouri, in and around Cape Girardeau. The Associated Press says that the production of 'Gone Girl' brought over $7 million to the Show-Me State.

For those of you that have read the book and watched the movie, which was better? Would I be better off reading the book before seeing the movie, or does it matter?
