It was announced this week that Germanfest will be expanding to two days this year. The event will be held on June 2 and June 3 at South Park in Quincy.

Friday, June 2, will offer a modern version of Germanfest with “Raised on Radio” providing live music from 6 p.m.  to 10 p.m. Your favorite food items will be on the menu Friday night as well as Saturday.

Saturday will begin at 3 p.m. with a family oriented atmosphere featuring a “Kinderplatz” with activities designed for children under 12 years old. Be sure to find your heart at the Lebkuchen booth as well. Music will be from 3 to 5 p.m. and will feature traditional German folk songs. The “Heidelberg German Band” will begin to play the old favorites, interspersed with the standards from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. The toasts, the polkas, and other dances will make for a fun evening.

Proceeds from the Germanfest are used to fund group activities and transportation for students, interns and adults from Herford County, Germany, Quincy's sister-city, while they are visiting us. This reciprocates what Herford provides for the Quincy groups visiting Germany. Additionally, Quincy High School and Quincy Notre Dame German classes receive activity and material funding, while Quincy University Soccer players receive financial assistance for their quadrennial trip to Herford.
