The City of Canton Tourism Commission last year decided to put on a series of free concerts, in an effort to bring people to the city of Canton. And each time the weather has cooperated, the concerts fulfilled their objective. People from all over the Tri-State area have come to Canton to watch these free concerts.

This year, the plan was for three shows. The first one, June 17, was nearly rained out. The band Eleven was able to play for about an hour and a half, before a severe thunderstorm blew through, causing the show to end early. Since Eleven is such a crowd favorite, I would hope the Tourism Commission will make plans to bring them back in the future.

The next free concert is Friday July 28. Stumptown opens the show at 6:00, followed by Madd Hoss Jackson at 9:00. The latest weather forecast (as of this writing) calls for partly cloudy skies and a temperature of 85 ̊ at showtime.

The location of the concert is Lewis Street between 3rd & 4th, downtown Canton. Since the show is in the middle of the street, you are encouraged to bring your own lawn chair. Coolers are welcome, and you are allowed to bring the beverage of your choice. Just please pick up after yourself (and since I am on the clean-up crew, your assistance would be greatly appreciated).

You are more than welcome to grab something to eat from the many Canton area restaurants. If you choose to eat at the concert, the Canton Main Street Association sets up a booth, where they serve delicious food as a fundraiser for their organization.

Please share this information with your friends. The more people that show up to these concerts, the better chance there is of the Canton Tourism Commission putting on more free shows.

The final free concert of this year will be Friday September 29, featuring Super Majik Robots (Culver-Stockton Homecoming weekend). I have seen them before. They are a ton of fun!

Follow the City of Canton Tourism Commission Facebook page or visit their Web site for more information about these, and other upcoming events in Canton.

See you there!
