B&B Main Street Cinema 8 in Hannibal has been hosting Retro Nights on Thursdays, usually once a month, for quite a while. This is a really fun night out. They show all sorts of movies that people have fond memories of, and tickets are only $5. They just wrapped up the 'Back to the Future' trilogy. I think 'The Princess Bride' is next. 'Dirty Dancing,' 'Ferris Bueller's Day Off' and 'Halloween' are a few other movies that have been featured during Retro Night.

Since I'm a huge movie fan, I thought I'd share my list of movies that I would like to see at Retro Night. I suppose it is possible that some of these movies may have already been shown, but I don't think they have. If any of them have already played, I hate that I missed them!

Here are my choices, what are yours?

  • Ghostbusters

Have you ever talked to anyone that didn't like 'Ghostbusters'? I haven't, either. 'Ghostbusters' came out when I was three or four. My first memory of seeing it was when it was on TV, and then later on VHS. I was old enough to go to the theater when 'Ghostbusters 2' came out. I remember the line for the movie being huge! I'd love to see the original on the big screen.

  • License to Drive

Nothing says "80s" quite like Corey Feldman and Corey Haim. A friend and I were talking recently about the Coreys, and I mentioned that 'License to Drive' was a movie I remember liking when I was a kid. She had never heard of it. I've not seen this movie since the 80s, so it's very possible that I remember it being a whole lot better than it actually is, but it would be fun to see again.

  • Short Circuit

Numer 5 is alive! 'Short Circuit' is another one of those movies that I was introduced to on TV and video. I watched it over and over. When 'Short Circuit 2' was released, my dad took me to see it at the theater. It would be great to see the first one again. I've not watched 'Short Circuit' in years.

  • Batman

1989's 'Batman' is one of those movies that achieved "iconic" status pretty much instantly. I don't think I had a single friend that didn't see it. Most of us had at least one Batman poster in his room. I never got the bat-symbol cut into my hair, but I remember seeing some kids that did. My family went to see 'Batman' at the Quincy Mall. It's remained one of my all-time favorites, especially when it comes to comic book movies.

  • A Nightmare on Elm Street

I actually saw the remake of 'A Nightmare on Elm Street' at Main Street Cinema 8 a few years ago. I've mentioned before about how much of a letdown I thought that movie was. Last Halloween, Retro Night featured 'Halloween.' Fair enough. Next year, I'd like to see the original 'Nightmare on Elm Street.' Then maybe I can forget all about that remake.
