ESPN will feature a woman play-by-play announcer during the upcoming National Football League season.  According to an article in the American Sportscaster's Online periodical, Beth Mowins will handle the play-by-play for the network's second game of their Monday Night Football coverage on September 11. Mowins will team up with former New York Jet and Buffalo Bills head coach Rex Ryan for the broadcast of the Los Angeles Chargers-Denver Broncos game. The game will also mark Ryan's first ever analyst job.

Mowins will become the first woman to handle the play-by-play duties since 1994 when Gayle Sierens broadcast the Seattle-Kansas City game on December 27, 1987.

Mowins does come into the booth with experience having done play-by-play for women's college sports since 1994.  She has also worked men's college football since 2005 and has worked the Oakland Raider's pre-season games since 2015.
